MUMC+ Wayfinding

School project

September, 2017 until March, 2018

In the first term of the second year on Comunnication, Multimedia and Design we got an assignment together with Maastricht UMC+. This is an University Hospital in Maastricht. In 2019 they are going rebuild their entire first floor. They want a flexible poli because now on very busy days, they only have 70% of the hospital in use. So they asked us to think about a way they could manage the new wayfinding their patients will have once it is done. We choose the target group people who are chronically ill and visit the hospital regularly. We found a lot of interesting points that would really help the patients in the future. We found that these people need something to see their upcoming appointment and their last one. They also need something to see what medicine they use. For this we designed an app. In this app they can see their last and next appointment. They can also still see the letters they get from the hospital. In this letter they can also see their next appointment. Next to that they can see the medicine they use or have used in the past. See some of the design and prototypes down here!

Next to the mobile app we also thought of a way how the wayfinding in the hospital for our target group could become a lot easier. For this we found that the letters people get from their hospital are horrible. Sometimes it doesn't even come at all. So we redesigned the letter and we designed the screens of a registration column, which you will find the moment you enter the hospital. The letter and column work with a few colors which will lead you to the right part of the flexible poli. See the letter and screens down here!
